Set up products & stores

Before your first count, the console needs two things: your product list (what you sell) and, later for each job, the stock-on-hand file (what the books say you have).

Step 1 — Set up import templates (Admin)

Both uploads follow a template you configure once. Go to Settings → Import Templates:

  • Product catalog tab — tell QuantalCount which column in your file is the barcode, which is the name, the price, and so on. Also where to find the file's encoding and layout.
  • Baseline tab — for the stock-on-hand files. The most important setting here is which product field your file's code column matches: barcode, SKU, or external ID.

You only do this once. After that, uploading is just picking a file. Full details in the Import Guide.

Step 2 — Upload your product list (Admin)

Upload your product master file on the Products page. The upload runs in the background:

  • New and changed products are saved.
  • Products that are not in the file get removed — every upload replaces the whole list, so always upload the complete master file, not just the changes.
  • Rows that conflict with each other go to a review queue instead of failing the upload.

Your plan limits apply (for example Starter allows 1,000 products and 10,000 rows per file).

Step 3 — Add stores and locations (Admin)

Create your stores under master data, then add the locations (shelves, zones, back rooms…) you'll count in each store. A job needs at least one location before it can be marked Ready.

Step 4 — The stock-on-hand file comes later

You don't upload it here. Once a job exists, the Supervisor uploads it from the job's Baseline panel — covered in Create and run a job.
